President's Message

Ken Hilinski
Well, we're sorry this newsletter is a little late, but we were contending with power outages and lack of internet capability, as was everyone else.
We are moving forward and planning many exciting events for next year. Please refer to the individual area pages for details.

I would like to thank everyone for their support this year, and the support of our staff in the various areas. Your Board of Governors and the various Committee Chairpersons have worked hard to make the club a success this year.

It's always a little sad when things start winding down at the club in the fall. I took in the sunset from the patio this evening (Wednesday November 9) and was reminded of the many good times I had at the club this year during the Spring, Summer and Fall. I already can't wait for it all to begin again next Spring.

We still have some upcoming events, including Frank Serafino on Saturday night. And it looks as if this weekend will be good for getting in some golf!
Don't forget to consider signing up for the New Year's Eve Dinner/Dance. New Year's Eve is always a fun time at SCC.

I'll be in touch again next month with more news.

Committees
From Jim Howard, House Committee chair. . .The House Committee had a fantastic year thanks to all who supported the 50/50. We met all our goals and look forward to doing it again next year. I would like to thank the Daly family for working with the House Committee and providing some of the best dining in the area.
Over the winter, if any members think of anything that would make our club even better for next season, please send me an email with your suggestions. Once again I want to thank all of you for supporting our Club and the House Committee.

From Rennie Hartmann, Social Committee chair. . .As our season winds down, we hope you continue to think of us by attending our last two events -- Frank Serafino on November 12 and then the festivities on New Year's Eve -- again with Frank!! Please give Christine a jingle and book a table or a few seats for both events. All relatives, friends, and neighbors are more than welcome to join you in the merriment. Looking beyond the season approaching us only too soon, we are planning more patio moments with live music, wine tastings, also accompanied by live music, a new twist on the old Nine, Wine and Dine, dinner and dancing, and some added attractions along the way. Any ideas you may have are more than appreciated. You can e-mail me at 4thfairway@cox.net during the interim - be happy to turn my back to the white stuff beyond my window - and chat with you! See you next on the 12th - put on your dancin' shoes and lube up the vocals!! Sunshine and lollipops to you all!

From Sandee Johnson, Women's Golf co-chair,The Women's Golf League is breaking away from the norm, so hang onto your visors. Opening "dinner" will be Saturday, May 5th. Mark your calendars, as the fun will begin at 3:00.
The League is always looking for new members. So, if you have ever wanted to learn how to play golf (we have all been there) or if you play golf and love to socialize come join us on the 5th.

Golf

Stan McLennan, PGA Pro
Dear Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the 2011 golf season. In my 23 years as the Head Golf Professional, this is by far the wettest golf season ever. I guarantee next season will be much drier.
Recently we had 24 players participate in our annual Suffield Cup Event. The event was a tremendous success. A special thanks to our team captains, President Ken Hilinski and past President Stanley Szwed. The matches were very competitive on day 1 but on day 2 President Ken's team pulled away for a 164 136 victory.

I want to take this opportunity to highlight some important dates for the upcoming 2012 golf season. The 2012 Suffield Cup will be held in May. All Men's One Day Member Guests next season will be scheduled on Thursdays. Also, all three men's leagues, Spring, Summer & Fall are scheduled to take place in their normal time slots. The annual Three Day Member Guest will take place the first full weekend of August. The Club Championship will be held on its normal weekend in August. The season will wind down with the annual Pro Member and Staff Appreciation day in mid to late October. Our final event of the season will be a 9 hole Turkey Shoot on the first Saturday in November. All dates will be posted on the Suffield Country Club website very soon. The schedule still has some tentative dates to be finalized, but this should allow our members and newcomers to plan their 2012 golf.

On the Ladies schedule, Jane Blake and Sandee Johnson have some new and exciting plans for the Ladies Association. Please read the Ladies Association portion of the newsletter with some of their highlighted events.

Remember, we have a wonderful club and membership. Let's make 2012 a great year at Suffield Country Club.

Grounds

Lance Heil, Grounds Superintendent
I remember saying something in October of 2009 like, "I have never seen so much rain. It can't get any wetter." I was wrong, by a long shot. Suffield, to my knowledge, has never had as much rain as it has in 2011. I am thankful for it. I have gotten to see, in my first season, every weather extreme possible. Heat and snow, rain and wind, hurricanes and earthquakes and even a tornado. I have been able to identify hot spots, wet spots, and every spot in between. I have to say that with all of this the Membership has been highly supportive and made coming to work easy every day.

We have many ideas for improvement, from drainage to bunkers to aeration to the dreaded sixth hole. We will be working all winter on machines, trees and some drainage. I hope everyone feels free to stop by and visit to share ideas or concerns for next season or even advice on lawn care. Thank you all for making this an enjoyable and succesful year. Next year will be even better. It can't get any wetter. Right?

Swim

Amy Egan, Swim Chair
Congratulations to the 2011 SCC Swim Teams! The Junior Swim Team placed third at Junior Swim Championships at Glastonbury Hills Country Club on Saturday, July 23rd and the Senior Team placed second in Senior Swim Championships at Hopmeadow Country Club on Sunday, July 24th. The 2012 Swim Team season will begin the week of June 25th, 2012. The cost is $20.00 per child with a $50.00 max per family. The swim team will hold a team suit sale within the first two weeks of the season.

We have hired a new Pool Director for the 2012 season! Please welcome Jen Motolo Fedorchick!! Jen is very excited to start the 2012 season, she has some great ideas for next year! Her official start date will be May 1st, 2012. Please spread the word that we are hiring an Assistant Pool Director for the 2012 season. Interested qualified individuals should email their resumes to swim@suffieldcc.com. New and returning lifeguards should also express their interest by emailing swim@suffieldcc.com. If you are interested in joining the pool committee please email Amy Egan at amiegan@aol.com!

As many of you know the Suffield Country is beginning an engraved brick program. The bricks at the pool will be placed in the grass section behind the shallow end stairs, closest to the golf course. They will be placed into the hill as part of the landscape and the project will begin in April. You may also request for your brick to be placed at the tennis courts or by the second hole on the golf course by the club house. The bricks are $75.00 each! Please download the brick order form on the website, you may email it back to swim@suffieldcc.com, drop it off at the pub or mail it to the club!

Tennis

Kate Egan, Tennis Chair
The tennis courts are being readied for the winter now. The nets are down. We look forward to seeing them go up again early in May!
