| The year-end financial picture for the Club is beginning to take shape as we head into the fall season. After posting an operating loss of just under $100,000 in 2006, I am pleased to report that we project 2007 operating results to be very close to break even, and there are no plans for a fall assessment. I would like to thank everyone who helped contribute to this remarkable turnaround. I would like to especially thank Club accountant David Beltramello for his tireless effort in managing and reducing the Club's operating expenses.
The positive results on the operational side are very good news for the Club for the short term. However, we still have a tremendous amount of work to do because break even operating results leave us with no excess money for badly needed capital improvements to almost every area of the Club. Most pressing are equipment replacement and facility improvements to the Golf Course, pool area and tennis facility, all vital to the long-term success of the Club.
With this in the mind, we are excited to announce the launch of our first ever CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND DRIVE. Details will be sent out in early September to all members explaining the many different ways you can help secure the long-term future of the Club. A complete "wish" list of urgent improvements or equipment needs, along with estimates of the cost for each, will be shared with all members so you can see exactly where dollars will be spent.
I am hopeful that the Club's positive momentum will translate into a successful fund drive that will position us well for the future. As always, please contact me if you have any questions.

| What a fun and productive summer season we are having in the ladies league. We had the Peter Dunne Tournament in June with record breaking attendence. Congratulations to Evie Moran and Barbara Vischak our top winners! We had a great time at the little banquet held right after and we should keep them going. The member guest was held Sunday July 15th and we had a successful turnout with great gifts, food and drink. I would like to thank the board and Armand Regulbuti for getting the second Nine, Wine and Dine in gear. It was a fun time as well as a beneficial one towards our new shower in the ladies locker room. Thank you to everyone who contributed. The entertainment after was wonderful and we look forward to the next one. Again, thanks for all your donations!
I almost forgot to mention the results of our first Ladies 5 week Spring League. congrats to: 1st Flight: Winner- Jan Chapman 2nd Place- Jean Johnson 2nd Flight: Winner- Judy Hamner 2nd Place- Donna Szwed We want to do this again so it will be up for discussion.
The President's Cup was played two Wednesdays in a row instead of two days in a row due to rain. Congratulations to Elaine Ward - First Place & Kristen Foley- Second place runner up It was a fight down to the end with a 1 stroke lead at the final.
We had the annual "Bring a Friend" on August 29th and it was a great success with 30 league members and friends. We hope to keep this going each year. Thanks to Donna Szwed for her work and effort. Everything looked beautiful. The end of the season will be a potluck of different tournaments each Wednesday. I didn't put some on our calendar so check the sheet at the clubhouse for type or tourney. I want to mention that our end of the year banquet will be coming up on Wednesday, October 3rd. We will have a signup sheet in the clubhouse and it hasn't been determined yet if a little tournament will be involved. I also want to mention that this is my last term as President. I want things to remain positive so anybody interested should contact me or our committee. |

| I have just finished reviewing all the past newsletters and emails that have been sent regarding the golf course and I realize that we have been asking a lot of the golfing membership this year; be patient, drive here, don't drive there, yell Fore!.etc.etc. I think it's time to say thank you, for your patience, cooperation, and most importantly for your support.
Thanks to your cooperation we have successfully removed all ropes from the golf course, and it has made a significant improvement in the appearance and condition of the golf course. We hope that we will have similar success when the conditions are less favorable, and we have to rely on you to be alert and conscientious when driving around the golf course. In the long run this will result in a more accessible golf course and a more enjoyable golf experience for the entire membership. Keep up the good work.
I am amazed at how many people have taken the time to alert us to their presence on the golf course since the last newsletter. Although there have been a few isolated incidents, in general I have noticed a remarkable decrease in the number of close calls with respect to worker safety. We all thank you for your cooperation.
I would especially like to thank those of you who regularly take a moment to stop me, and the rest of the staff, to share how much you are enjoying the golf course. There is no greater reward than knowing that your hard work is appreciated. While the weather has been almost ideal this summer, the conditions you are enjoying today are the result of years of hard work and dedication. Please don't hesitate to introduce yourself to the crew and let them know that you are enjoying yourself and that their efforts are appreciated.
One of our goals is to keep the membership informed regarding current conditions and future maintenance projects. We have been very busy on the course lately and have not been able to post new information on the web site. The maintenance department and Grounds Committee will be very busy in the coming weeks getting ready for next season, so please drop by our web page every now and then to see if there is anything that could affect the condition or accessibility of the golf course. While you are there feel free to share your ideas and comments by emailing me at superintendent@suffieldcc.com.
Thank you again for your cooperation and continued support and we look forward to seeing you on the golf course.

 Tennis
Andy Brydges
| I hope everybody has enjoyed a great summer of tennis. Special thanks to Deedee Presser for keeping the courts in great shape and to Russ Bombard, Jenny Waddington, and Deedee for running another great Junior Program!
September Tennis Social: After a lack of availability in June and July, we're shooting for a September social. Casual, at the tennis club, on Friday, September 7 starting at 6pm. We'll have open play on the courts, and will do something simple with food and BYO beverages.
Four Town: The Tennis Committee is looking to schedule people for 52nd Annual Four-Town Tournament (September 22) so please be on the lookout and ready to respond to emails regarding this important annual event. There are many slots to fill for women's doubles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles. In addition to the match play, please be sure to join us for the after match banquet.
We're lucky to have such a great location to play, talented and enthusiastic staff, and a growing membership. Several times this year I've seen that all the courts have been full with a diverse assortment of families, singles players, and doubles players. I think it's a great sign and look forward to carrying the momentum into next year.
Enjoy watching the US Open and let it inspire you to continue to get out there and play!

Swimming

| A glorious Labor Day weekend marked the end of a terrific pool year at S.C.C. This was a summer of outstanding pool weather, a bit dry for the golf course turf. In addition to our outstanding weather, we had an outstanding swim program for the children of all ages. There were over 100 members, a record on the senior team this year. Coaches Dan, Jen,Kristin, and Alyson did outstanding jobs instructing, coaching, and mentoring our team. As you may know, we were undefeated in dual meets and won both the junior and senior championships. I also want to thank the "bubble" coaches for their efforts with our "stars of the future".
Friday's mornings this summer became know as "Pancake Breakfast Fridays." All you could eat pancakes raised $500.00 to purchase an outdoor ping-pong table for the pool members.
We held two dances for the middle school aged children. Both dances were huge successes and very well attended. Our family night and awards night were also big hits.
We could not do all that we do as successfully as we do without the total support and help of you the parents. The staff and I applaud you and thank you for all that you do, especially at the swim meets and at our special events.
Overall, it was a great summer. See you on Memorial Holiday Weekend.

Grounds Committee
| The Grounds Committee has planned to re-introduce a program that existed several years ago. The program is entitled "Adopt A Hole Program"
Members are asked to sign up for a hole for which they will be responsible to maintain throughout the year as they play a round of golf.
The responsibilities are as follows:
1. Replace or fill fairway divots. 2. Repair ball marks on the green. 3. Replace or fill divots on the tee. 4. Maintain general cleanliness of the hole.
Sign-up sheets will be posted in the pro shop, men's locker locker room and lady's locker room.
Jeff Kingsbury, chair of the Beautification committee, will oversee the program.
Plans are being readied to remove dead and/or damaged trees on the entire property. Prior to Labor Day the tree between the second green and the cart barn will come down. Another tree will be planted in that general area and lilac bushes will be placed along the side of the cart barn.
Most of the tree work will be done by our own staff once the season ends. One tree that caused open discussion was the pin-oak that towers over the 8th hole. Peter Gorman says that the root system is undermining the entire green and robbing nutrients from the putting surface. Feel free to express your opinion on the pin-oak's future to Peter or anyone on our committee. Peter has posted a blog on his web site where you can weigh in on the subject tree.
