President's Message by

Gary Roman

As Labor Day approaches and summer starts to wane, we can all look back at a great summer at the Club and we can also look forward to a fun-filled fall season. The golf course and the tennis courts will be open for play through late November and our dining facilities will be open as well. The Daly's are currently taking reservations for Holiday parties to be held during November and December. Now is a great time to book your company event. Lock in a date to host your company or family event at Suffield Country Club.

The recruitment of new members is a full time vocation for the Board of Governors and the fall is no exception. The Club will be sponsoring a booth at "Suffield on the Green" which is held during the second weekend in September. The event draws many of the Town's citizens to the Green for the fun activities and to visit with friends and the many organizations that are active in Town. The Club will be there in force to offer prospective members an opportunity to talk about the various memberships available and to hear about the Fall 2006 Golf Membership Offer. This year the Club is offering to allow a new member to join in September and play the balance of the year for free, with a two year commitment by the prospective member. The Club will be waiving the Initiation Fee, a savings of $1,500, and locking in the 2007 price for the membership at the 2006 fee schedule. The new member will pay $1,000 in 2006 at the time of the application and will be billed the balance in the first six months of 2007.

As always, the largest percentages of our new members are referred by our existing members. I am happy to report that in 2006, the Club has welcomed 43 new families as members at the Club. Of the 43 new families, 35 were from Suffield! This indicates a strong support from our members in building positive connections with prospective members. More than likely, a friend who is a member invited them to try out the facilities at the Club. I hope that is the case and I strongly encourage you to continue your fine recruiting throughout the year. Programs, such as the Fall 2006 Golf Membership Offer noted above, is one of the tools available for recruitment and we will also be offering an Suffield on the Green 18 Hole Golf Special to help recruit additional members. The coupon will allow for 18 holes of golf with a cart for $25, with certain blackout times and dates. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to stop by the SCC booth on the Town Green or to call the Pro Shop and talk to Stan McLennan about the fall offers.

Many members are scheduling golf outings for their businesses and their guests during the months of September through November. Events held at the Club are a great way to promote your company and to thank your customers and clients. Please consider having an outing for your group of any size, from a foursome to a full field of over seventy golfers. The Daly's will be happy to accommodate the outing and make you and your business look good in front of your guests.

Have a wonderful September!

Regards

Gary Roman

Dear Golfers,

The best golf of the year is ahead of all of us. September and October are wonderful months to play. Our green aerification has been completed and the course will be back in the great shape very soon.

Last month I mentioned a special on Ping Golf Clubs. I was able to get a few more sets of Irons. Anyone interested in a second set please stop by the shop to see. I have Irons sets as low as $479. I also have drivers and fairway woods as low as $179 and $199 respectively. Reminder that Christmas is only a little over 100 days away. The shop is restocked with some beautiful jackets, sweaters, and fleece. The September special of the month is save $10 to $20 on all golf bags in the shop. Ping bags starting at $99. Also, save $10 on any FJ shoes in stock. Lastly, all demo clubs are on sale. (Men's & Women's) You can find great savings on brand new equipment.

We have some great events still remaining on our schedule. Pioneer Valley Ryder Cup Matches Sept 9th with a 12:30 PM shotgun. Staff appreciation day is Sept. 16th. We will have a shotgun start at 8:30 AM. This event is open to all golf members. You may 0play with whomever you wish. This will be a fun format for all.

* The Four Town Tournament is Saturday, September 16. Women's doubles is played in Suffield, Mixed Doubles in Granby, and Men's Doubles in Simbury at Hopbrook. We are actively looking for players and encourage you to try it if you haven't played before.

* After tennis, there is a banquet at our club ($25/pp) for all of the clubs - always a lot of fun. Call Andy Brydges (668-1919) to sign up or for more details.

- Please remember to sweep your courts after play!

* Sandee Johnson - Net Champion
* Jane Blake - Net runner up
Peter Dunne:
* Jane Blake and Sandee Johnson

We had our "Bring a Friend" evening on August 30th and it was a great success. We had some great prizes and gifts for our guests and we hope to continue this in the future. The Low Gross Winners were: Jan Chapman, Libby Deedy, Jean Johnson and Nancy Kelly. The Low Net winners were: Joyce Pemberton , Sandy Envoy, Evie Moran and Sally O'Brien. Congratulations to all winners!!!!

The ladies Association will be making some changes to the league for next year and we will be disclosing them at our end of the year Banquet which will be on October 4th. This will be a scramble with the banquet following. I hope all ladies will attend and the ladies who did not join the league this year will consider it for next year as the format is changing.

The President's cup will run on Wednesday, September 6th and Wednesday, September 13th. It was originally set for August but rescheduled due to weather. We had hoped to make this a positive season this year so hopefully we can diminish some of the negative energy going around. Oh, I'm sorry, did I say something???
