President's Message by

Gary Roman

I am pleased to report that the golf season is off to a good start at Suffield Country Club. The weather has cooperated and the course is in excellent shape thanks to Tom Watroba and his crew. Stan McLennan and the Golf Committee have planned many tournaments for the year and they are looking for increased participation from our Members. Please check the Website's calendar for the Tournament schedule.

The Club will again host the Swing For a Cure breast cancer awareness golf tournament on July 23, 2006. Last year the Tournament raised over $7,000 for the charity. The Women's Golf Association does a wonderful job in organizing this charitable event and the golf tournament is open to all the Club's Members and to the public.

In early May, the CT Section of the Professional Golf Association will be at the Club and will review the slope and will re-handicap the golf course. With the construction completed on holes 8 & 9, the Board of Governors felt it was the appropriate time to evaluate the course ratings. In addition, the Board is now considering the potential of renumbering the holes on the course by having the course start on the existing hole 8 and finishing on the existing hole 7. The Board has not made a decision on this matter and has deferred the decision for at least a month and requested that the Golf and Grounds Committees report back with a recommendation.

On the recruiting front, interest from prospective Members is still very strong and the Club has inducted eleven new members as of April 30Th, including eight golf members. I want to personally thank the Szwed family for introducing four new Golf members this spring. Suffield's best recruiting results has and will likely always come from our own Members. The Golf Membership goal for our Membership Committee is at least fifteen more golf memberships in 2006 and the Committee would certainly appreciate the referral of prospective Members in all categories from our existing Members. Please invite your neighbors and friends to enjoy the Club's facilities at an event or to just play a round of golf.

The Website (www.suffieldcc.com) has been updated for privacy purposes. The "Member Directory" is no longer available to anyone entering the site. As a Member, you will be given a password that you can change as you see fit. A collateral benefit of the changes to the protocol for the Member Directory will be the ability for each Member to maintain their personal information. If an address change is required or an e-mail address needs updating, the Member will be able to update the personal information on a real time basis. More information on these changes will follow in the month of May and instructions will be sent to each Member.

Please review the newsletter for the various events at the Clubhouse in May including the Mothers Day Brunch (14Th) and the Comedy Night Special on May 19Th. Please call early for your reservations to reserve your space at both these events.

Regards
Gary Roman

Pro's Corner by

Stan McLennan
Dear Golfers,

The golf season is underway. The course has been open a month and I have never seen it better in my 18 years at Suffield. Tom and his crew have done an outstanding job in giving you the best playing conditions.

CSGA
The CSGA will be here to rate the course between 5/1/06 5/5/06 due to the construction on holes 8 and 9.

Pro Shop
The Pro Shop is well stocked with all new equipment and demo clubs. Don't forget Mother's Day and Father's Day are right around the corner. I accept a trade-in on new club purchase.

Tip of the month: Backswing
As you address the ball, make sure the left shoulder and upper arm start the club back. (Not your left hand). The bigger muscles will move the triangle back to create proper rotation in the backswing. The triangle is created by your two arms and the base of your shoulders. (i.e. for a left handed golfer do the opposite)

Beginners Clinic
The first beginner's clinic began April 25th and will run for 5 weeks. If anyone is interested in future clinics, please contact Stan at 668-7260.

I would personally like to thank the Daly family for the outstanding job they did for the Connecticut PGA Event held at Suffield CC on April 24, 2006. The food was great and the service outstanding.

Lastly, let's have our entire membership try to encourage a friend to join the club in the near future. We have a great setting and environment to enjoy this great game called golf.

Until Next Month Your Pro,
Stan McLennan

Women's Tee by

Susan Szwed
It is only April and what wonderful weather we have had! Many of us have already put a few rounds into the computer. Maybe this is the start of a dry, sunny summer, filled with many rounds of golf.

The Women's Golf Association got off to a good start on Wed. April 26th with the opening banquet. Numerous topics and events were discussed including the two member guest tournaments Sunday, June 11th and Wednesday Aug. 9th. Our first league outing will be Wednesday evening with Stan doing a clinic @ 4:30. Other events and weekly sign-up sheets will be posted in the Pro Shop. Please check them regularly or call in to get your name on the list.

Like any pool party- the more the merrier !! We encourage all returning and new members to spread the word to neighbors and friends about the best social setting in town for the hot months that are fast approaching. Pool Membership is great for swim lessons, our competitive swim team and the many social events listed. And remember, the benefits of the pool aren't confined to the fenced in area. Make sure you take advantage of the clubhouse for lunches or dinners with the Daly's. Or take advantage of the benefit of having a round of golf on the best nine-hole course around. Contact Stan McLennan at the Clubhouse for details.

Contact Andy Brydges (668-1919) if you need more information about it.

We are very excited to have the Daly's as our concessionaire and we are committed to providing the best possible dining experience for every member of the Club.

By now every member should have received a letter outlining the dining options and policies for 2006. Please note that the $50 minimum (with only food purchases from the dining room menu credited toward the minimum) represents a return to a long standing policy that was suspended in 2005 because of the unusual and temporary circumstances surrounding our restaurant operations. As a reminder, you may choose to dine in the main dining room, the Pub room, or the outside patio as long as you order from the dinner menu with a reservation.

Having a full service restaurant for lunches, dinners and special events is a vital part of a positive Club experience. We must remember that we are not just Golf, Swim, Tennis, or Social members, but Suffield Country Club members. Everyone's support and patronage of the restaurant, recognizing the need to do so within the parameters and policies established by the Club, is critical for a small, private club to succeed.

Lastly, please remember that all dining policies are set by the Board of Governors and the Daly's and their staff is charged with enforcing those policies. Please feel free to contact Chris, myself, or any Board member with questions or comments. We really do want to hear from you.
