Memorial Day still remains the unofficial start of summer at Suffield Country Club and that weekend included the official opening of the pool and extensive activity on the tennis courts and the golf course. The grounds and the Clubhouse are in great shape and provide the promise for a great summer for our members and their guests.
The Board of Governors has initiated two trial programs in the utilization of the golf course. Commencing in late May, the starting hole has been switched to hole eight and the finishing hole will be the seventh. This trial will last for at least two weeks and allow our members to test the new hole sequence. The second temporary test involves the installation of forward tees on several holes. The forward tees will be mowed and marked on a short term basis by the Grounds crew and we ask all golfers to test the shortened tee locations. The CSGA will slope the new forward tees in June and that information along with your comments will guide the Board to a decision in June or July. Please provide the Proshop & the Golf Committee with your comments on both trial programs.
In order to encourage new golf memberships and to provide a secondary source of income for the Club, the Board has adopted a temporary Guest playing policy changes for the months of June through August. Members will be allowed to bring the same guest twice in each month, including weekends. There will also be two Golf Specials that include the following costs and parameters:
1) Weekly Member Guest Tournaments: Three weeks a month on Fridays, the Club is introducing a Weekly Member Guest tournament will include golf for one member and three guests plus carts and $40 per foursome for prizes. The total cost will be $169 and the two first dates are June 23rd and 30th. The Club will also maintain the traditional the monthly Thursday Member Guest Tournaments which includes the golf, carts, prizes and meals at the price of $280 per foursome. The next Thursday Member-Guest Tournament is June 15Th. Please see the Proshop for the schedule of these events.
2) Business Special: A member bringing three guests will be charged for two guest fees and four cart fees. This special can be used everyday of the week. The cost of this special is $120, which is a savings of $41 off the traditional rates.
The Annual Meeting will be held Tuesday, June 27Th at 7 PM in the main Dining Room of the Clubhouse. The June Board Meeting will follow the Annual Meeting.
As a reminder, parents are encouraged to sign up their children for the week-long Suffield Sports Academy, which commences June 26Th. Please contact Andy Brydges, Kelly Patterson or Stan McLennan if you have any questions or if you want to reserve a spot.
Regards
Gary Roman

Golf Course Etiquette Help keep our course great by repairing all ball marks and replacing all divots. Pull carts and push carts are similar to gas carts in that they are not permitted on the tees and fringes of the green.
Congratulations! Congratulations to Ryan Shea on being awarded the Eagle Scout Honor for Troop 260 on May 23, 2006.

| The mild dry April we experienced has given way to a cool wet May. At least we were spared the worst of the flooding and damage to the course has been minor in nature. Tree pollen seems to be in abundance this year particularly with the Maples and Oaks. Recent heavy winds and rain should help mitigate this problem. Warmer drier weather is in the forecast so hopefully you'll be able to get out and enjoy some better golfing weather and we can get the course dried out, cleaned up , and groomed.
See you on the course.

| I am happy to say that "things" seem to be going in the right direction with in OUR house! The Easter and Mothers day brunches were a big hit and well attended! The pub and dinning rooms are looking great with a fresh coat of paint and new sport memorabilia hanging on the walls. The House committee urges all members to "come on up" and enjoy the new dinning experience! The Daly's have done a tremendous job of stepping in and taking over in an area that was lacking! We as members need to support them! I would also like to clarify any misunderstanding from a letter that was sent out and last month's news letter about using the dinning minimums in the pub. The Daly's will honor the monthly minimum on the patio or in the pub but ask that you do make a reservation. This will help them apply the minimums to the proper accounts. We do encourage members to use the club and not wait until the last weekend of a month to try and get the minimum taken care of. All special events ie..comedy night or a wine dinner do count towards the minimum. Lastly the House committee and the Daly's are working on a plan to re-instate a "house charge" ...more details to follow! Until next time...be well and drink well! What do you call a meal without wine?
